    Care ( tattoo )

After performing tattoo, the artist meticulously covers the tattooed part, uncovers it after 30-60 min and wipes it with a dry clean towel. Then the cream and the pomade that the artist suggests are put on that part till the skin absorbs it. This should be repeated several times so that the tattooed part doesn’t get dry. Since the frequency of it changes according to different skin types, we cannot say a definite number of repetitions. for the first 3 days, it is advisable to avoid from the contact with city water as it can harm the tattoo and make it get infected. During these first 3 days, the following are advised: before taking a shower, a thick layer of vaseline should be put on the tattooed part and wrap it with stretch film to avoid the interaction with water. Then, the stretch film is uncovered and the cream and pomades that the artist suggests are put. The self-care period is up to 2 weeks. It is advised to visit the tattoo artist after 15 days for control.

    Care ( piercing )

After having piercing, the solutions and the pomades advised by the piercer are put on the relevant part of the body twice a day without hand interaction with the help of cotton swabs. It is advised to avoid interaction with water for 24 hours after having piercing. The self-care period is up to 2 weeks. It is advised to visit the tattoo artist after 15 days for control. The first earring should absolutely not be removed for 1 month and the first earring change should be done by the piercer. It is advised to have a certified titanium earring to speed up the healing process.

    HISTORY OF TATTOO

Tottoo is a very old tradition. It has been understood that the tattoo had been practicing in ancient Egypt in the 2000s BC from the examinations on mummies. Apart from Egyptians, Britons, Gauls, and the Thracians had tattoos, as well. The Ancient Greeks and Romans considered tattoo as “particular interest of barbarians” and had their criminals and slaves tattooed. It was forbidden to have tattoos in Christianity; however the first Christians had the name of the Jesus Christ or the cross tattooed on their body.

Over the centuries, Europeans forgot the tattoo. Towards the late of the 18th century, they learnt it from the American Indians and Polynesians once again. The word ‘tattoo’ in European languages was derived from the language of Tahiti, the original form of which was ‘tautau’. In the turn of the 20th century, tattoo became very famous among sailors. Tattoo has become a way of expressing one’s feelings, patriotism or belief over the years and it has still been widely used.

    HISTORY OF PIERCING

According to a research conducted by The Lancet, piercing has been done in all tribes in history and it is still being done. Apart from other uses, it is a way of measuring the resistance against pain. Piercing, in many nations, is a proof of becoming man. Besides piercing, tattoo, wristlets, heavy bracelets, metals for penis, chains and cane rings are used for the same purpose.

Maya peoples had their tongues and genital organs pierced for their religious traditions. North American Indians were pulling the piercing on their chests to show their resistance to pain.

Shamans in Asia were having temporary piercing on their tongue and cheeks to show that they were in trance. Sufi people, Indians, Hindus, people living in Sri Lanka and Malaysia were doing the same for the same purpose.

Piercing, originated in Kama Sutra, was first used by prostitutes before Western nations. In United Kingdom, during Victorian Era (1819-1901), one can see woman having piercing on their nipples on magazines. The name piercing has derived from the method of Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria: Prince Albert used to wear tight trousers which were in at that time and hang his penis with a ring to his trousers.

After the World War II, piercing on tongue, nipple and lips became very famous in Germany. Tattoos were accompanying piercings. Towards the end of the 1970s, tattoo and piercing were reborn in Europe. The Punks created a counter culture with the help of them. Piercing became famous among homosexuals and sadomasochists in the USA and UK. Musicians and artist followed this trend. In the last 20 years, it has become increasingly popular in USA, England, France, Germany and in other Western countries. While it was a trend among marginals in the part, it has become very popular among young people. It has also reached Turkey and became popular in big cities.
